Amazon's prepaid return label (APRL) feature is designed to streamline the return process for both sellers and customers. Here are key details and requirements related to this feature:
**Maintain Account Requirements:**
- Keep your Amazon seller account details up to date, including your Value Added Tax (VAT) information.
- Set up a UK default return address for your account. This address will be used for all prepaid returns when APRL is enabled. You can update your return address in your account settings.
**The Return Process:**
- You'll receive email notifications when customers request returns and receive prepaid return shipping labels through the Online Return Centre (ORC).
**Multiple Return Addresses:**
- You can configure multiple return addresses for each store where you offer listings.
**Returnless Resolution:**
- You can offer returnless resolution when it makes better economic sense for you to offer a refund and let the customer keep the product. Customers requesting such returns will receive a full refund immediately upon submitting return requests.
**Return Shipping:**
- A prepaid return label will be issued only if there is coverage by the integrated third-party carriers. As of now, Royal Mail and Evri provide return shipping for seller-fulfilled orders as integrated carriers.
**Refunds and Cost of Shipping:**
- Returns with a prepaid return shipping label issued by Amazon are automatically eligible for Refund at first scan (RFS). Items refunded with RFS will be marked as such.
- For items not refunded through RFS, you'll need to handle those refunds manually.
- If the return reason is determined as the customer's responsibility, you can deduct the cost of the return shipping label from the refund you provide to the customer.
- If a return isn't refunded through RFS, you must issue a refund within two working days of receiving the return.
**Reimbursements of Refunds Issued by Amazon:**
- If a prepaid return label was issued, but a customer returns a damaged, incomplete, or materially different item, you may file a SAFE-T claim to request reimbursement of the refund issued on your behalf.
**Reports for Prepaid Returns:**
- All prepaid returns are recorded in your Settlement and Payments report and the Returns report.
**Ineligible Items:**
- Prepaid return shipping labels are not provided for items that fall outside the scope of Amazon's return policy. Such items are sent to you for manual review.
**Exemptions:**
- Several categories and subcategories are automatically exempt from prepaid returns, including Handmade, hazardous goods, flowers, and bulky items.
- You can request exemptions for high-valued items (price exceeds GBP 100) that require special shipping.
- Exemptions are based on the information provided when listing your product.
**What Happens If the Return Is Lost or Damaged in Transit:**
- You are responsible for filing a claim directly with the carrier if a return is lost or damaged in transit.
**Who Pays for the Label and Return Shipping Cost:**
- The cost of the return label is automatically deducted from your seller account when the carrier scans the return package.
- Return shipping costs may be the seller's or customer's responsibility, depending on the reason for the return.
**International Returns:**
- If you do not have a UK default return address, you can provide customers with a seller pre-paid return label (return shipping cost is your responsibility) or offer a refund without requesting a return.
**Return Rates Charged with APRL:**
- Evri and Royal Mail are the integrated third-party carriers that support returns in the UK. They offer competitive rates for tracked shipping options.
