Amazon's return process is designed to provide a consistent and convenient experience for both sellers and buyers. Here's an overview of the return process:
**Step 1: Return Authorization**
Amazon will automatically authorize in-policy return requests on your behalf. You can identify automatically authorized return requests by the "Auto-authorised" flag in the Orders tab of Seller Central under Manage Returns. However, certain categories and subcategories, such as Handmade and specific product categories like flowers and bouquets, are exempt from automated return authorizations. Return requests for exempt items will require manual review and authorization by you.
Ensure that your product information is accurate and complete to prevent unauthorized returns.
**Step 2: Return Shipping Labels**
When a return request is approved, Amazon sends a return shipping label to the customer with your UK default return address. If you have a UK default return address, the return label will be prepaid. For items that do not meet Amazon's return policy or are exempt, you can provide a pre-paid return label by uploading a custom label.
Make sure your return address is up to date in your Return Address Settings. If no domestic return address is available, the unpaid return shipping label will display your business address.
**Step 3: Issue a Refund**
Items returned using the prepaid return label program are automatically eligible for a refund at first scan. This refund will be marked with a "Prior refund: Applied" badge and "Resolution: Refund at First Scan." If a return falls within the scope of Amazon's return and refund policy and you are obligated to issue a refund, it will be automatically processed.
If you believe the automated customer refund was not in accordance with Amazon's Returns Policy (e.g., the item is defective), you can file a SAFE-T claim within 60 calendar days after the refund was charged to your account.
If a return isn't refunded through refund at first scan, you must issue a refund within two business days of receiving the return, or Amazon may issue a refund on your behalf.
**Canceled Returns**
If a buyer contacts you directly to cancel a return request, ask them to cancel it through their Amazon account. You will receive an email notification when customers cancel pending requests.
**Prepaid Return Label Program for Seller-Fulfilled Orders**
Amazon's prepaid return label feature is enabled for sellers with a UK default return address. Customer-initiated returns that fall within Amazon's return policy scope will be automatically authorized and come with a prepaid return label. The cost of the return label is automatically charged to your seller account when the package is received and scanned by the carrier.
**Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) Orders**
For FBA orders, Amazon manages returns and refunds.
**International Returns**
If you're selling internationally and located outside the country you're selling in, you have several options to handle international returns, including providing a pre-paid return label, offering a returnless refund, or providing a local return address.
Ensure compliance with Amazon's Customer returns for international sales policy.
